Brock Purdy finished 2nd among all QBs in key analytic stat in 2025

Don't let the headline fool you; this is a good stat to lead in for Brock Purdy.

The San Francisco 49ers quarterback finished second behind only Matthew Stafford for the lowest "failed completion" percentage, according to FTN Fantasy data. His 19.8% rate was just ahead of Drake Maye, and Purdy's 39 failed completions were tied with Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow for the fewest among quarterbacks with at least 170 passing attempts.

A "failed completion, per FTN Fantasy, is a "completion is any completed pass that fails to gain 45% of the needed yards on first down, 60% on second down, or 100% on third of fourth down." Examples include third-and-long screens, angle routes and checkdowns that don't garner many yards.

This means that Purdy was effective in making sure that his passing attempts would be enough to either get a first down or put his team in a position to get one quickly. It's also a result of playing in a Kyle Shanahan offense, but it's good to be able to execute well, too.

FTN Fantasy's Bryan Knowles noted Purdy has finished in the top two of this list in three of his qualified seasons, although dropping below 20% is something only five other quarterbacks had done over the past five seasons before Purdy and Stafford did in 2025.

Some may question Purdy's playmaking ability, but the quarterback knows how to keep his offense afloat on drives.
