The San Diego Padres' offense has been one of the worst in the entirety of Major League Baseball this season. Manny Machado, Jackson Merrill, Fernando Tatis Jr., and Xander Bogaerts have all struggled in 2026.

It's clear that if this team wants to go on a postseason run, let alone make it there, they need A.J. Preller to swing a trade for some offensive help this summer.

Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer, with such a clear need for offensive firepower, tabbed the Padres as the best landing spot in a trade for Los Angeles Angels 37-homer outfielder Jo Adell.

"At this point in his career, Jo Adell is the kind of guy you buy low on and hope that there's something there," Rymer writes. "... As for the Padres, it's honestly unclear whether they need more pop or more of a spark."

Regardless of what this Padres team needs, adding help on the offensive side of things is imperative for this club. And Adell would be a solid trade target this summer for Preller.

With San Diego's right field spot being a bit of an enigma right now, with Tatis moving back and forth between RF and second base, adding someone like Adell to lock down that spot would be a nice move for this club.

This season for the Angels, in his seventh year in the big leagues, he has a .240 batting average with a .699 OPS. While it's not the best, it would be better than most of the Padres' hitters this season.

Just last season, he hit 37 home runs with a .778 OPS. Add in his improved defense this season, with his ridiculous three-home-run-robbery game earlier this season, and Adell is someone worth taking a chance on.

He's 27 years old and under club control through the 2027 season. He might have 0.6 career bWAR and -0.1 bWAR this season, but there are worse options the Padres could pivot to this season for their outfield.

Adell shouldn't cost too much, which is important for a Padres team that doesn't have the best farm system after their shopping spree a year ago.

This would be a nice move for the Padres to try and shore up an outfield spot, while adding someone who has solid pop and could be a good middle-of-the-order slugger to make up for the lack of offense from their core hitters this season.
